After meeting a boy named Norman Bronski at school, Ben feigns interest in joining the Indian Guides – a father-son “tribe” called the Minotauks – with Jack to secretly drive a wedge between them and get rid of him. Despite reluctance, Jack goes along with it at Sandy’s insistence. Neither of them like the club, but Ben manages to effectively humiliate Jack at the meetings. Once it starts interfering with his job, Jack tells Sandy he can no longer be part of it. Ben fakes distress by this and compares it to his father leaving to turn Sandy against her boyfriend.

Jack sends the rest of the Indian Guides to the ranger station while he and Ben (who returned to help him) improvise to distract the criminals. Poll's behavior at Jackson's funeral was described in a letter decades after the funeral in the 1921 book, "Andrew Jackson and Early Tennessee History" by S.G.

A representative from the collections department of the Hermitage told us that after the funeral, Poll was likely cared for by remaining family members at The Hermitage, given that Jackson's adoptive grandchildren referenced the parrot in an 1850 letter. The claim has been repeated on the YouTube account connected to the official museum for Jackson's home, as well as by the cast of "Hamilton"—a musical about the founding fathers of the United States. But it was Poll, his beloved parrot, that allegedly drew unwanted attention at the funeral by swearing like a sailor. According to one post, "President Andrew Jackson taught his pet parrot to curse. The bird was later kicked out of the former president's funeral for swearing during the service, according to one Jackson biographer." Sandy and Jack discuss his moving in, of which eleven-year-old Ben (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) does not approve despite his mother’s reassurance that it’s only a trial period.

With Larry now six feet under, he joins a relatively short list of recurring Simpsons characters whose deaths have actually stuck. Others include Bleeding Gums Murphy (1995), Maude Flanders (2000) and Mona Simpson (2008), among other tragic losses. When hearing that he was dead, I, with others, decided to attend the burial.

Before the sermon and while the crowd was gathering, a wicked parrot that was a household pet, got excited and commenced swearing so loud and long as to disturb the people and had to be carried from the house. I assume the major dislike of this film is the secondary plot featuring Joey (Richard Portnow) & Co., which I would agree is unimaginative and ill-fitting. Another thing I see mentioned is the Native American stuff, I don't think it's fair to say it's "racist" - insensitive? When Ben Archer’s divorced mother accepts a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Jack Sturges, Ben decides to put Jack through the most undignified test he can devise to make Jack earn his respect.

However it did moderately well at the box office, faring well with young audiences, and grossing about $40 million domestically. The film was first released on VHS on August 8, 1995, then on DVD on March 4, 2003.

The author endeavored to collect complete documents referencing the president, his state papers, and other miscellaneous items, and reproduce it in a series of volumes as a way to study that period of American history. To determine the veracity of the claim, we looked closely at any firsthand accounts about Poll, the parrot. According to Dan Feller, professor of history at the University of Tennessee and editor at "The Papers of Andrew Jackson" project, Jackson bought the parrot for his wife, Rachel, for $25 through the Nashville firm of Decker & Dyer on June 5, 1827. Rachel died in 1828, however, and Poll remained at The Hermitage. We have found only one eyewitness account of the potty-mouthed parrot mentioned in a letter decades after Jackson's funeral.

Jack goes to apologize, and instead overhears Ben bragging about everything over the phone to his best friend Monroe. Although he is disheartened by this revelation, Jack doesn’t tell Sandy about it and instead seeks advice from fellow stepfather Chet Bronski (George Wendt). He then redoubles his efforts to bond with Ben by improving the Indian Guides. Jack conceals the truth and refuses his boss Bob’s order to transfer to Portland, Oregon so he can redeem himself to go camping. His initial attempts are unsuccessful, and he feels the situation is hopeless.

We found only one written account of the cursing parrot, detailed by a funeral attendee in a letter, decades after the event. A historian and The Hermitage's collections team also directed us to this same account. Given that we were unable to find more than one source recounting the incident, and that it was shared years after it allegedly occurred, we rate this claim as "Unproven" until more details come to light. Man of the House is a 1995 American comedy-drama film starring Chevy Chase, Farrah Fawcett, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. The film is about a boy (Thomas) who must come to terms with his potential stepfather (Chase), a well meaning lawyer who is unknowingly the subject of a manhunt by relatives of a man he helped land in prison. It was shot in Los Angeles, California and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Get to know a few of the real people you’ll see in the series, from the Subpostmasters to the corporate executives, and learn about the actors bringing their riveting stories to life. It isn’t every week that The Simpsons kills off a named resident of Springfield, so longtime fans of the Fox comedy are still processing the loss of Larry Dalrymple, who died in the April 21 episode.

The funeral was preached by a Presbyterian Pastor from Nashville, standing on the front porch to a great concourse of people. His body was then taken by a military company and borne to the garden and placed beside his wife in a vault that he had prepared. A military salute was then fired and we left him there to rest in peace, to await the great resurrection morn. The funeral in 1845 drew thousands to his Tennessee home, known as The Hermitage, where he was buried.

Drop a comment with your thoughts on his untimely demise below. It’s a fair question, as the character’s last name wasn’t actually revealed until after his death. But if you’ve been watching The Simpsons with any regularity over the past, say, three and a half decades, you’re probably more familiar with the late Mr. Dalrymple than you realize. Feller pointed out that Poll was referenced less after 1837 when Jackson moved home, possibly "because he was then himself living at home and had no need to write to enquire after her." Despite this, "Hit the Road Jack", a song by R&B artist Percy Mayfield, was cleared for release on the soundtrack that, ultimately, never made it to market.

Jack is confident he can win him over, telling Sandy he has read every book on step-parenting he could find. In the Seattle Federal Court House, Jack successfully prosecutes criminal Frank Renda for drug trafficking. Before being sentenced to fifty years in federal prison at Sheridan, Frank makes a veiled threat of revenge towards Sturges. After court is adjourned, Frank’s son Joey rephrases the threat in a more intimidating manner, but Jack doesn’t back down and then dismisses him entirely.

IHOP's Japan licensee terminated its agreement with the firm in 2001, forcing the company to shutter its 32 Japanese restaurants. Meanwhile, SVIDO had begun searching for a buyer for the IHOP Corporation. After approximately four years of unsuccessful attempts to sell the company to an outside suitor, Herzer and other members of IHOP's management began planning a leveraged buyout, enlisting the services of several different institutional investors.

It looked like Kourtney and her friends had a blast having breakfast together to celebrate her special day. The Poosh founder revealed that she had invited some friends out to the International House of Pancakes for a birthday breakfast. I know when I am starving and I go out to eat the last thing I want to do is have my meal in front of me smelling delicious and I have to wait for silverware to be rolled for my large party and myself. Something so small could make the decision for me on returning. It's the small things that matter the most when you're spending your hard earned money. I like the fact I seen the manager helping, encouraging, and providing her staff with her availability to their questions/concerns that they needed during such a busy time.

IHOP also began offering special breakfast promotions and deals at its restaurants, believing that customers captured during the breakfast hours would be more likely to return at lunch and dinner as well. For example, in 1985 the Rooty-Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity special--which included two eggs, two sausage links, two bacon strips, two fruit pancakes, and coffee--was offered in various markets for either $1.99 or $2.49. Similar dinner specials were soon introduced at most locations at prices that placed IHOP solidly into the budget and fast-food pricing arena.

Unfortunately, while many thought that Jahn had used the profits from Wienerwald to enact the purchase, he had actually borrowed $8 million to complete the $12 million transaction.

The firm moved from the NASDAQ to the New York Stock Exchange in 1999. After years of slowly restructuring the company and reinvesting its profits in further improvements, IHOP and its stock were continuing to soar. Suddenly, financial analysts were taking note, hailing the corporation as an overnight phenomenon with the potential of a gold mine.

The large hot chocolate has 300 calories, 8g fat, 6g saturated fat, 57g carbohydrates, 2g protein, 440mg sodium, and 49g sugar.

IHOP wants to know, "What's better than pancakes?" "Free pancakes," they say, and it's hard to argue with that logic. The good news is you can get your hands on free pancakes, courtesy of IHOP, several times a year. The FDA recommends that you limit your sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams per day. Take down a full stack of Original Buttermilk Pancakes though (that's five flapjacks), and you're already at 2,260 milligrams for the day — and that's not considering anything else you might eat while you're there. Add two slices of bacon on the side and you're officially over your sodium limit for the entire day.

Combos offer mix-and-match customizability, which can be used to make your order of eggs and meat more (or less) nutritious. For meat, turkey bacon instead of pork bacon or sausage will also reduce calories and fat, while still providing 10g protein. This section of IHOP’s menu has a dizzying array of options for every sweet tooth—and it shows in the nutrition information. Most items in the pancakes and crepes section are extremely high-sugar and high-calorie, as well as surprisingly high-sodium.

For starters, that griddle is set to a very specific temperature — 350 degrees to be exact — and, believe it or not, it is not slicked with oil or butter, or any other fat, for that matter. These pancake-making techniques come courtesy of Marie Grimm, IHOP's vice president of culinary innovation, who spilled the company's secrets to Delish. We can only assume that a griddle that requires absolutely zero fat but remains a surface that pancakes don't stick like glue to must be highly seasoned from years of use. If you don't have that confidence in your own griddle, there's still hope. According to Grimm, if you need a little help to create a slick surface, use a paper towel to rub a small amount of Crisco on your cold pan. Using butter, she explained, might produce a pancake with "that webbed, lacy look, instead of a uniformly golden brown" surface we've come to expect from IHOP.

The introduction of Country Griddle Cakes came at an excellent time for IHOP, and the new pancakes and their advertising campaign were a quick success. The 1990s saw a more nutritionally aware clientele, and pancakes have a good overall nutritional profile. This was especially true for Country Griddle Cakes, which contain nonfat yogurt, Cream of Wheat cereal, and skim milk. A Restaurants & Institutions survey revealed that the top trends for the food service industry to follow were home-style value meals, combo breakfasts, anything in a skillet, and pancakes. It seemed that IHOP's strategic priorities were right on the money, and the company entered the mid-1990s in a position to strengthen its standing in the family dining market.

It turns out that the cooks just get a little help from a handy batter dispenser. One more thing you've probably noticed about a stack of IHOP pancakes — they're all the same size. Whether it's a short stack or a full stack, there's a uniformity there that you can never seem to achieve with your ladles full of batter at home.

Same store sales appeared to be gaining momentum in 2003 as IHOP management worked to position the company as the leading family dining destination in the industry. Usurping competitors Denny's and Waffle House from their top spots, however, was contingent upon the success of the new franchise model and the firm's aggressive branding campaign. Nevertheless, IHOP appeared to be on the right track for future growth. In August 1992, IHOP made another strategic move in its effort to dominate the family-dining market when it acquired 23 units in the Pacific Northwest from JB's Restaurants, Inc. Prior to the acquisition, this geographic area had been almost completely controlled by Denny's, Inc., another large full-service chain whose primary focus is family dining. IHOP's management saw the 23 JB's units as a prime opportunity to penetrate the Pacific Northwest market and quickly began converting the restaurants to the IHOP concept.

Almost 90 percent of IHOP's units were franchised, with its largest concentrations of restaurants in California, Florida, Texas, and Japan. Systemwide sales continued to increase, positioning IHOP among the leaders in the family-dining market. Analyst predictions of the early 1990s rang true when Forbes magazine once again added the company to its "200 Best Small Companies" list as IHOP's stock price rose by nearly 60 percent over a 12-month period.

Wienerwald declared bankruptcy in August 1982, leaving IHOP to SVIDO, a Swiss holding company which had no restaurant management background and left IHOP's management in place to run the chain. Herzer had come to IHOP in 1967 as a controller for International Industries. He was appointed chief financial officer in 1974, just before the company folded.

Here's the hoping IHOPS made a big enough splash that we'll get another chance to taste it in all its pumpkin spice pancake glory. Since the annual fundraiser's inception in 2005, IHOP and its customers have done plenty of good.

Forbes magazine ranked IHOP 102 out of 200 of the best small companies in the United States, one of only three food service companies to be included. Analysts were predicting huge rises in the stock's value, some as high as 60 percent. Although IHOP had just brought attention to itself by entering the public arena in 1991, it had actually been enjoying increases in its revenues every month since the early 1980s.

Herzer was appointed president of IHOP by Wienerwald's chairman, Swiss entrepreneur Friedrich Jahn. Herzer held to the belief that franchising the IHOP units would prove to be the best business strategy. He reasoned that an equity-involved franchisee would deliver superior restaurant operations to those of a salaried manager who had no personal stake in the company.

For folks in New York and New Jersey, the promotion costs $1, which goes to IHOP’s campaign to help those struggling with food insecurity. The chain's Vermont location is the only one to serve real maple syrup. Brace yourself for this — it's been reported that IHOP serves a whopping 700 million pancakes per year, along with 1.5 million gallons of syrup. Of course, you can't have pancakes and syrup without something to wash it down, and that translates to 100 million cups of coffee and 14 million gallons of orange juice that get served along with the breakfast staple. Most of the breakfasts on the menu come with a side of those famous flapjacks, meaning that just about every order counts towards that huge yearly tally.

Pancakes are so versatile that whether you pair them with a sweet, fruity, or savory topping, they’ll still taste amazing. You might think pancakes are so basic, everyone can easily perfect them. Bring the taste of IHOP right into your kitchen with this IHOP pancake recipe. Drizzle them with some maple pecan syrup and you’ve got a perfect day in the making. Local time will receive a free Short Stack of Buttermilk Pancakes. Unfortunately, the IHOPS stout wasn't mass-marketed, and only 20 barrels were brewed, so there was no chance of it gracing IHOP menus — the only way to taste it was at a handful of New York bars and beer festivals.

Indeed, digital experiences have become more important for the brand, as takeout and delivery sales are twice the size they were in 2019 and now account for nearly one-fourth of all transactions. This digital-based loyalty program should continue to provide a nice tailwind for the brand while driving trial and incremental visits. All you have to do is sign up for MyHOP to get your pancake perks, and not only will you get a freebie just for enrolling, but you'll also get a free stack on the anniversary of your enrollment each year, as well as on your birthday. Surely you're willing to put up with a little IHOP email spam throughout the year to indulge in twice yearly (at least) free pancakes, not to mention the "members-only news" you'll receive, which we can only assume is scintillating stuff. But a towering stack of light, fluffy pancakes couldn't possibly be offensive, you say?

Most newly renovated IHOP restaurants doubled their annual sales, and soon many of them were breaking the $1 million mark each year, up from $300,000 a year before the changes. Many franchisees attributed this sudden success in the lunch and dinner market to the attractive prices offered at IHOP. Whether you're hungry for one of our popular breakfast items or looking for lunch, dinner, or late night dining ideas there is an IHOP® location  in Florida ready to serve. IHOP primarily serves breakfast food, but they started serving lunch and dinner items in the 1980s. This allowed them to compete with similar restaurant chains such as Denny’s and Sambo’s. Among its most famous menu items is the Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity.

The Haven on the Norwegian Escape Cruise Ship

Additionally, Haven guests have priority when reserving restaurants and entertainment. They also have priority seating at shows and are invited to other exclusive events. As one would expect, the master bathroom in the Deluxe Owner's Suite in The Haven on the Norwegian Escape cruise ship is large and luxurious, with two sinks, lots of marble, and separate tub and shower.

Depending on the destination, you can signup for bus tours, walking tours, adventures like snorkeling, cultural experiences and more. Shore excursions at these ports-of-call are also highly ranked among passengers as favorite activities on a cruise. As a Norwegian Cruise Line Haven passenger, you’ll find more benefits here. Take a moment to look over the schedule of these top-rated shows and go ahead and make your reservations with the concierge service.

This a designated section in the upper decks of certain ships that is reserved for the private luxury of keycard holders. Depending on which vessel, passengers have exclusive access to bars, lounges, pools, hot tubs, restaurants and sundecks not available to those other passengers you saw at the terminal. Exclusive to Breakaway, Breakaway Plus, and Prima class ships, The Haven Lounge offers a luxurious and comfortable space for guests to relax. Featuring an exclusive bar, this lounge is a perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail and socialize with fellow Haven guests, adding an extra layer of exclusivity and relaxation to the Haven experience.

The Haven Suite Accommodations – The Different Suites Available

This Spa Suite includes all of the features and amenities as the Deluxe Spa Suite with Balcony, however, this suite does not include a separate living room area, making its square footage slightly smaller. Designed to be a romantic hideaway for guests, this suite includes a round queen-sized bed and floor-to-ceiling windows to capture the passing ocean views. Guests staying in one of the 50 Haven suites at the bow are probably most likely to forget they are on a mega-ship. Honestly though, with the current promotions for other stateroom categories, we find it hard to justify paying for these accommodations. As much as we loved the new sundeck, the extra cabin space, and the other exclusive perks and amenities, we also loved the rest of the ship. Thus, for the amount of time we spent in The Haven, the higher price point isn’t worth it for us.

The Haven is usually located at the front of the Norwegian Cruise Line ships, and guests will often times be able to experience the same view that the ship’s captain possesses from many of The Haven spaces. The Haven’s spaces are luxurious, but they are also meant to have a homey feel, so that guests can relax in a quiet and serene space onboard. Guests will need to use their keycards in order to enter The Haven complex.

Explore The Haven'sDeluxe Owner's Suite with Large Balcony

There are no spa cabins in the Haven that include access to the thermal suite. Further, amenities like the Prima Speedway and the Galaxy Pavilion will still be an up-charge for Haven guests on Norwegian Prima. Not to mention, there are two hot tubs on the second level and spa amenities. Yes, that’s right, you don’t even have to visit the thermal suite as a private Finnish sauna and cold room are located on the Haven Sundeck.

What types of accommodations are offered at The Haven on Norwegian Encore?

Of course, this is always a personal decision based on preferences and travel budget. The Haven Restaurant on Norwegian Prima even offers both indoor and outdoor seating. In addition to the above listed perks, there are other exclusive areas included in The Haven on Norwegian Cruise Line. Further, room service is complimentary for Haven guests on Norwegian Cruise Line. Guests can even order off the Haven menu and have it delivered to the stateroom.

The highest “standard” category on board NCL cruise ships is usually the Club Balcony Suite or Suite Category. If you take the price of a Club Balcony Suite, then you will be anything from around 2-3 times per person more for access to The Haven. Lastly, journey up to the Sundeck for panoramic views that are the best on the ship, with luxury sun loungers, day beds, and patio-style seating. “Once you’ve experienced The Haven, there is NO going back.” Those were the words of a friend I was chatting to in the District Brewhouse onboard Norwegian Joy.

However, employees are permitted to accept cash when offered by guests. There are 29 eateries on board Norwegian Encore and like other guests, passengers in the Haven can’t get bored trying the wide variety of cuisines and venues. Rather than offering a comprehensive review of all the ship has to offer, this review is primarily focused on The Haven experience on Norwegian Encore. Many cruisers claim once you stay in The Haven, it’s hard to go back to a regular stateroom. Since we have never stayed in The Haven on any other NCL ship, we can not comment on how The Haven on Norwegian Prima compares to others in the fleet. So, it comes down to asking whether The Haven is worth it or not for your cruise vacation.

The regular Owners Suites can sleep up to four, while the Deluxe Owners Suites, some with two bedrooms, can hold six. These cabins are true suites, with a living/dining room that is separate from the bedroom. Although all the suites have spacious balconies, the balcony of our suite on Deck 14 had expansive 180° views. About 200-square-feet in size, it had more than enough space for two lounge chairs as well as a table with chairs for al fresco room service (in warmer climates). So, you will want to review NCL’s website to determine the differences between The Haven and Suite cabin categories.

Think of an upscale resort pool at the top of the ship, except it’s reserved just for you and a select few. With NCL Haven lounge access, you can easily find a quiet corner to unwind or mingle with fellow cruisers in this cozy hideaway, away from the lively energy of the rest of the ship. At the heart of The Haven is the Lounge, a space designed for serenity. Now that I’ve given you a little taste of what The Haven is, let’s get into the details of what a stay in a Haven stateroom includes. But first of all here is a little sneek peek inside The Haven on Norwegian Joy.

The benefits of the Norwegian Cruise Line Haven experience begin before you even board the ship! When you arrive at the port of embarkation amidst the throngs of passengers, you have immediate attention from the staff. When you book a suite in The Haven by Norwegian, you’re not just getting a room; you’re upgrading to top-tier luxury at sea.

Rather than waiting at extended security checkpoints, you have a special line for quick processing. And, all those other passengers seem to disappear when you are taken to a private room filled with comfortable seating and snacks. Here are a few of the unique Haven spaces and experiences to consider before booking passage on your next NCL cruise. One of the staples for breakfast or lunch is saltfish with ackee, a fruit with the taste and texture of scrambled eggs. During your cruise to Jamaica, you must try the legendary flavor of jerk, a signature seasoning invented by runaway slaves which adds a distinctly Jamaican kick to chicken, lamb, pork, fish, and even veggies. Visit the majestic 6,600-acre Rose Hall Great House, one of the most famous homes in Jamaica and the setting for a number of Gothic novels and tales.

In Ocho Rios, guests can choose from several excursions including a traditional bamboo rafting tour. That excursion dives into the history of the island, taking travelers to historical sights as well as scenic spots. Guests learn about rum production on the island while sampling locally made rums. Juice tastings are available for any kids who may want to join this experience.

Take a boat to Stingray City to feed gentle stingrays as you stand in the shallow water, or snorkel over the wreck of the USS Kittiwake, now a thriving artificial reef. Shop for upscale fashions and duty-free goods in George Town, and try tangy conch salad and rich rum cake for lunch. You’ll also visit ports like Cozumel and Grand Cayman, which provide a wonderful contrast of cultures and scenery, with fun in the sun always at the fore. You could also stop at sleepy Bimini or CocoCay in the Bahamas, where you’ll find watersports galore.

MSC, Norwegian, and Holland America also include Jamaica on their cruise itineraries. Though the cost of a Jamaica cruise can vary greatly depending on your itinerary, length of trip, cruise line and a number of other factors, there are numerous options to choose from for every budget. The best Jamaica cruises will let you explore adventure-packed experiences.

Encounter Georgian architecture, reggae culture, cool waterfalls, and blissful beaches on cruises to Jamaica, an island forged by flames, rebellions, and pirates. Learn all about Bob Marley, the island’s most iconic and beloved musician. Climb up natural rock formations at Dunns River Falls, and take a dip in one of the natural pools you’ll encounter along the way. Or simply lay back and relax at one of the beautiful beaches of Montego Bay, where turquoise waters and swaying palm trees await on your luxury Caribbean cruise. Situated between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay, Falmouth is the perfect gateway to the best of Jamaica. Drift through tunnels of green bamboo on a rafting trip along the Martha Brae River.

Dubbed the cruise capital of the world, Florida is also a top-ranked vacation destination in its own right. Hugged by the calm, blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico on its western coast and the cool, sapphire-blue waters of the Atlantic on its eastern coast, it's a true beach lover's paradise. Thanks to the Sunshine State's location, cruises from Florida provide some of the best and most preferred ports to eastern, western and southern Caribbean isles.

The Viking Star is smaller than most of the cruise ships that call on Jamaica. It accommodates just 930 guests, ensuring top-notch service for everyone on board. There’s no other voyage quite like a cruise to Jamaica, the Caribbean island that’s the birthplace of both reggae music and the legendary musician Bob Marley. When your ship arrives in port, you’ll find reef-lined sandy beaches, soaring mountains, tropical rainforests, and rum cocktails you’ll be daydreaming about for months.

The ship then visits Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curacao; and Kralendijk, Bonaire, before turning its bow to the north, toward Florida. After a day of sailing the Caribbean, Sirena drops anchor at Port Antonio, Jamaica, the gateway to Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park. Guests get a chance to hike, swim, and explore the town square for a day before embarking on another long sail — this time on the Atlantic. A day trip in Nassau, Bahamas, is the perfect penultimate stop before you reach your final destination, Miami.

Harmony of the Seas 7-night Eastern Caribbean Cruise Compass November 21, 2021

cruise compass

To help our readers it would be great to be able to show examples of the Cruise Compass from all the ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet. On our most recent sailing on Wonder of the Seas in September 2023, the app performed well. It was still clumsy though to find certain bits of information. If you prefer a paper copy, simply speak to your Cabin Steward on the first day and and them to deliver a paper copy each day. I can read through the various activities, shows, and events, choosing what interests me the most and ensure I don’t miss anything that important to me.

Day 7 – Perfect Day at CocoCay

From the tranquil moments watching the waves to the adrenaline-pumping adventures on cruises, I’ve experienced the magic of the sea in all its glory. On my last 2 cruises, my cabin steward said that they are told to give Cruise Compasses to  all people over 65. I asked both cabin stewards for a Day 1 Compass AND asked at Guest Services. Ask your cabin steward to leave you one each evening with turn-down service. Note that there are limits to the number of kids who can use Adventure Ocean at one time, and on our cruise, we bumped up against that limit several times. Keep an eye out for regular spa specials offered throughout the cruise (particularly on the first day and port days), and you get a discount if you book three treatments at once.

Still Want a Paper Copy?

These are the daily planners (cruise compass) for our 7 day cruise. Please note that unfortunately I did not get the Cruise Compass for embarkation day. For Day 2 I went down to guest services and picked up a printed copy. On Day 3 onwards our cabin steward provided the Cruise Compass in our cabin each evening.

Welcome To The Cruise Compass

As the leader in all things related to cruising, our travel blog provides expert guidance and valuable information to enhance the cruising experience. We have earned our position as the top search result for cruising by providing unparalleled resources, insights, and inspiration to our over 1 million readers every year. With 23 sailings, 87 ports of call, 128 days at sea, and voyages across 6 different cruise lines, we have firsthand knowledge and experience to share with fellow cruisers. Each evening, your stateroom attendant will deliver to your stateroom the Cruise Compass, which is a daily guide to the news, events and activities that will be occurring on your ship the next day. These newsletters are a guide to everything that is happening on the cruise each day. The Cruise Compass contains everything passengers need to know, including featured activities, special events, show times and more.

Rock Climbing, Shuffleboard and Table Tennis on Vision of the Seas

(Paid Wi-Fi isn’t required to do this.) The digital version is in the same format as the paper planners, and you can zoom in and out on the images. The option for paper IS available on many/most of the ships, and will likely return fleetwide when enough people complain about it. The smaller ships are, by default, older ships -- they were built before the technology existed for the wayfinder displays that have been put in the newer/larger ships. At some point in time the displays might be installed in the older/smaller ships... I also don't carry wallet or anything around ship but the card.

It also highlights any special offers or discounts available for dining, drinks, onboard merchandise purchases and even shopping in port. If you have cruised with Royal Caribbean before, you will know that they have the Royal Caribbean App, and this app actually includes details of all the daily activities, venue opening times, etc. Late-night activities are available on sea days, and morning till late night on port days.

Head down a level to Deck 5 and you'll see the Shore Excursion Desk and Guest Services Desk side by side. On Deck 4, behind R Bar, you'll find the NextCruise office, a small space staffed with sales agents to entice you to book your next cruise before you leave the ship. Besides the theatrical productions onboard Royal’s Vision of the Seas, evening entertainment abounds throughout the ship. Before or after dinner, start out with a round of evening trivia in Schooner Bar, followed by a whirl around the dance floor in the Centrum to tunes from the live band performing there. There are plenty of entertainment options aboard Vision of the Seas. Each night of the cruise features live shows in the 870-person Masquerade Theatre (Decks 5 and 6, forward), from comedians to Broadway-style productions featuring the Royal Caribbean singers and dancers.

It lists everything happening on the ship, so you can pick what you like and make sure you don’t miss anything fun or important. Every Royal Caribbean passenger should grab the Cruise Compass. It’s a daily newsletter that tells you about the day’s activities, shows, dining spots, and important news. Royal Caribbean's Royal iQ app is available on select ships and has among its features a digital copy of the Cruise Compass. In terms of activities listed here, they will all be listed again in the full daily planner, which is coming up on additional pages. Page two is usually best for glancing quickly over it for anything that jumps out as interesting.

About The Cruise Compass

Royal Caribbean packs a lot of things to do into each day and you are best served by reading it each evening to be aware of what is happening onboard. On every Royal Caribbean cruise I’ve been on (which is a LOT!), one of the last things I do every evening is to have a quick read-through of the following day’s Cruise Compass. Also, on select ships, your Cruise Compass will be loaded onto the Royal Caribbean International App. This way you can plan your time onboard straight from your mobile device!

The ocean is my first love, but I have another passion that’s close to my heart – sharing my stories. When I’m not on the deck or navigating through the waves, I’m pouring my heart out on my blog. Through my words, I invite you to join me, to feel the ocean breeze, to taste the salty air, and to experience the magic of the sea. IMy love for the ocean isn’t just a hobby; it’s an integral part of who I am.

Most of the activities listed on the Cruise Compass newsletter will apply on ships in the Voyager Class. These ships include Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, and Navigator of the Seas. Royal Caribbean used to hand out paper copies of the Cruise Compass every night, detailing the next day’s activities. Now, they’re moving towards digital, offering paper copies only if you ask for them. In addition to a listing of everything happening onboard, guests can add specific events directly to their own digital calendar for easy tracking. As you make reservations or add activities directly from the daily Cruise Compass to your calendar, your schedule is automatically updated.

The first page has an overview of what to expect that day, including where the ship will be (in port or at sea), a weather report, and various specials, offers and events that are highlighted. By far, the weather report in the upper right hand corner is the most useful information on this page. Some events are not repeated while other activities can change daily, so it is in your best interest to track what is happening so you do not miss any of it. Additionally, there's an hour-by-hour schedule of everything happening on the ship, including live performances, children's programming and dining options. Each day's newsletter also includes opening and closing times for all of the ship's facilities, a list of onboard services, medical contacts and information for each port of call, including law enforcement.

Also on Brilliance they had printed off people ship taken pictures for you to look at and buy, complete waste of money, paper and ink. You should be able to use the ships free ‘intranet’ , same portal you connect to use the RCL APP on the ship which is no charge to use. You pay to have access to the internet to stream or surf the web.

Yes, the APP is not always correct and this QR copy will be the exact copy of the paper one. Our family sailed on Oasis of the Seas for a 7 day Bahamas and CocoCay itinerary from Cape Liberty in May 2022. The daily activities, shows and opening hours of restaurants and venues are available on the Royal Caribbean App as well as on the daily Cruise Compass. Here are the full 14 days of Cruise Compass paper planners from my transatlantic cruise sailing from Barcelona, Spain to Fort Lauderdale on Rhapsody of the Seas in November 2023.

We recently sailed on the Mariner of the Seas for a 2 Night Weekend Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Daily Planner is Royal Caribbean’s daily activities schedule, and is delivered each night to your cabin during turn-down service as well as digitally on the Royal Caribbean App app. All the onboard activities for the following day will be listed, such as events, showtimes, drink specials, entertainment, and other things happening around the ship. I love sharing my best cruise tips with you, along with reviews of cruise destinations, shore excursions, cruise ships and cruise lines. While she may have scored lower than her competitor cruise lines’ ships, this is still a high average score. Regent Seven Seas Explorer is Inclusive Cruising at its Finest

True, it’s a high price you pay, but this is a ship aimed at people who want to feel truly special. But an Alaska cruise can be expensive, especially if you’re flying in from further afield. So, to make sure you get the cruise you want, I decided to work out which are the best Alaska cruise ships. While pulling into port one day, I remember digging into a hearty lunch of fish and chips featuring fresh-caught Alaskan halibut. (HAL is the first cruise line to serve fresh, certified-sustainable Alaskan seafood.) As of September, acclaimed chef Masaharu Morimoto is the Fresh Fish Ambassador as part of the line’s Global Fresh Fish Program. Seven Seas Explorer is also one of the ‘larger’ small ships to Alaska, so it feels even more spacious – perfect if you want to sip a cocktail, soak up the view and feel like you’re on your own private yacht – albeit a big one. Regent Seven Seas’ ships are another option for the most luxurious in the world, and an excellent choice if you want to explore Alaska in style. The 9 best Alaska cruises for every type of traveler in 2024

Of the three Celebrity ships that sail to Alaska, we recommend the Celebrity Edge for those new to cruising or seeking a more contemporary experience. Launched in 2018, the ship features standout innovations like Eden, a multi-level bar with panoramic views, and the Magic Carpet, a multi-purpose floating space suspended directly above the sea. Celebrity is popular with adults and couples looking for a premium onboard experience, including delicious cuisine, luxurious staterooms and a high-end spa.

Not only are the ships fantastic, with incredible thermal suites in the spa, heated floors in the bathrooms, and elegant Scandinavian design, but the company really emphasizes getting the most out of each destination. It’s called “The thinking man’s cruise” for a reason, as the line does a great job in educating its passengers with some of the best experts in their field. But this isn’t the only line with mega-ships sailing to America’s last frontier. So, if you want more than a cruise to Alaska and would like plenty of time on land as well, Princess offers some fantastic packages.

We evaluated over a dozen Alaskan cruises before selecting the best in each category. We considered various elements like the cruise line’s reputation and quality of service, ship design and architecture, and notable ship amenities (e.g., swimming pools, entertainment, technology, access to nature experts, etc.). We also reviewed each ship’s cruise itinerary, dining and wellness options, and the types of experiences and excursions available to guests.

Hike a glacier by day and then visit our ice-topped Martini Bar by night. Wake up to breakfast on your spacious, private veranda as you get ready for the day’s adventures. The Quantum-class ships of Royal Caribbean have studio staterooms for one passenger that have ocean views and balconies. And, Holland America has cabins with full-size beds and picture windows for solo travelers. Also, book in the shoulder parts of the sailing season for additional discounts and sign up for loyalty programs to enjoy some inexpensive (or free) perks. And, if you would like one of the popular balcony cabins (there is a continuous view of stunning scenery on an Alaskan cruise), book those early.

Based on feedback from our travel experts and testers, you’ll find the best cruises to Alaska to book this year's season or 2025. The newer Quantum-class cruise ships are often sailing Alaska for the season. These ships feature the North Star, offering guests breathtaking views of the Alaskan landscape far above the deck. Coming off of its 150th anniversary year, Holland America Line has been sailing to and around Alaska for more than half that time—75 years. Holland America Line’s “Alaska Up Close” deeply immerses guests in local cultures through onboard programs and activities, and shore excursions.

Onboard naturalists generally narrate what you're seeing, so head to the observation lounge (or tune to a broadcast on your in-room television) to learn about some of the top sights featured on scenic cruising days. Alaska's capital city is interesting because no road leads from here to the rest of the state. It's located at the base of Mount Juneau, and you can only get there via boat or small plane — even residents have to bring their cars to Juneau via ferry. Home to Mendenhall Glacier, this is a popular port for hikes by, kayak tours to and helicopter landings on the glacier.

Still, you can get a variation on a luxury cruise experience on a voyage to Alaska from Seattle on Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Encore. She manages the experience portion of the Good Housekeeping Family Travel Awards.

Princess also offers the most departure cities, potentially saving you money on airfare. Alaska sailings range from 4 to 22 days, though a week is the sweet spot. The line is also only one of seven permitted to enter the magnificent Glacier Bay National Park (shown); check out the tips at the end of the story for details. The happy answer to whether there are off-season cruises in Alaska is “yes”! For winter sports and the chance to see the Northern Lights, UnCruise Adventures offers February and March itineraries when other vessels do not sail.

“If you are looking for a more casual and laid-back experience, Seattle-based UnCruise Adventures offers down-to-earth trips with enthusiastic naturalist guides, simple accommodations, and hearty local cuisine,” says Palmer. Per the pro, travelers can “choose between a menu of included excursions such as kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, zodiac cruises, whale watching, and more.” All in all, UnCruise really does offer something for everyone. How to choose the right Alaska cruise itinerary

Likewise, you could take a shuttle bus to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau for $45 roundtrip, which is much cheaper than excursions booked through the cruise line. The casino is not open during the hours these ships sail into and out of Puget Sound, including often on the entire last night of the cruise. When Victoria is the final port, the ship never escapes to international waters to allow gambling. Both ships have outdoor movie nights at the pool, as well as actual cinemas for afternoon matinees. Plus, there are climbing walls, sports courts, and kids' pools for use when weather allows.

A variety of museums, restaurants, and bars are located just a few minutes away from where cruise ships dock in each port. In addition to convenience, roundtrip sailings also provide an excellent Alaska cruise experience. On a roundtrip cruise, you’ll still visit Alaska’s most popular ports, such as Juneau and Skagway, and most itineraries include a scenic glacier viewing as well. Instead of booking directly through Royal Caribbean, search shore excursions on websites like Tripadvisor, Viator, and Shore Excursions Group. By going through these websites, you can find tours that may be priced lower compared to those offered by the cruise line. Before booking an Alaska cruise, take time to research the activities and shore excursions offered in each port.

All Royal Caribbean cruises can be subject to itinerary changes, but you may find changes more common when sailing to Alaska. When most people think of an Alaska cruise, they imagine chilly temperatures, snow, and glaciers. Because of this, many passengers are surprised when they feel warm (or even sweat) on an Alaska cruise.

Packing a warm hat and gloves is also recommended, particularly if you’re cruising to Alaska in the shoulder season months of May and September. Packing for an Alaska cruise excursion is a bit more complicated than bringing a beach towel and flip flops.

Book shows and dining on the first day

The real differences are in what these smaller ships offer -- and don’t offer -- for those who choose to cruise on them. Some ships sail one-way itineraries which start in Vancouver and end in Seward, Alaska (and vice versa). This allows ships to visit more ports on a 7-night cruise and allows guests to enjoy land tours in Alaska or Canada pre or post-cruise. One of the most popular active activities is a kayak tour along Alaska’s scenic fjords, lakes, and glaciers. Kayak tours are offered in most cruise ports, offering passengers the chance to feel connected with nature by the gentle rock of a kayak. You can still have an amazing Alaska cruise by depending on public areas to enjoy the view.

Dreading transporting your luggage from the cruise terminal to the airport check-in desk? Royal Caribbean and the Port of Seattle offer a luggage valet service, which allows you to bypass standard airport check-in. Whether you’re cruising with an elaborate mirrorless camera or just your cell phone, it’s hard to take a bad photo of somewhere as beautiful as Alaska. Alaska’s landscapes are spectacular, so you’ll want to brush up on your photography skills before your cruise. One of our favorite “tricks” when planning an Alaska cruise on Royal Caribbean is to take advantage of cheap last-minute sailings. Outside of clothing, there are other essentials you should pack for an Alaska cruise.

At the conclusion of the Alaska cruise season, the ships reverse the itinerary and sail from Vancouver to Hawaii. One other consideration is Royal Caribbean offers land tours that you can add onto Alaska cruises from Vancouver, where you can explore the interior of Alaska before or after your cruise. Binoculars can be another great item to pack for an Alaska cruise excursion, as they give you the chance to view Alaska’s wildlife and scenery up close. If excursions sell out, Royal Caribbean will occasionally add more tour options and times to book, but this is not guaranteed. Prices of shore excursions through independent providers are often cheaper than Royal Caribbean’s pricing, so be sure to look outside of Royal Caribbean for better deals. Royal Caribbean excursions tend to be priced higher than independent excursions because the cruise line receives a cut of the excursion cost from the tour operator.

While a balcony is not a requirement on an Alaska cruise, there’s no denying a balcony cabin is nicer than an interior cabin on such a scenic itinerary. If you booked an interior or oceanview cabin for your 2024 Alaska cruise, consider upgrading to a balcony before your sail date. Radiance of the Seas was built to sail in all types of climates, so you’ll be able to enjoy both indoor and outdoor spaces during the cruise. Whether you choose to relax in the beautiful adults-only Solarium or catch a movie in the indoor cinema, you’ll find plenty of ways to pass time on a chilly day at sea. Some itineraries visit the charming gold-rush town of Skagway whereas others visit Sitka, the former capital of Russian Alaska. After a successful 2022 cruise season in Alaska, Quantum of the Seas will return to Seattle to offer 7-night Alaska Glacier cruises departing on Mondays.

Shore excursions are expensive

Starting your cruise in Seward is recommended for those who plan to travel in the interior of Alaska ahead of time, whether independently or on one of Royal Caribbean’s organized Cruisetours. One-way Alaska itineraries tend to be more port-heavy, as well, as there is less distance to cover than on a round trip sailing. Getting close to nature and wildlife is recommended while in Icy Strait Point, with whale watching and ziplining popular activities to book. Cultural excursions are another option, where guests can learn more about the Huna Tlingit people through song and dance at Icy Strait Point’s Native Heritage Center Theater. Ketchikan, the southernmost Alaska cruise port, is a quaint waterfront town surrounded by the Tongass National Forest. The town’s gold rush history alongside its Native culture offers a chance for visitors to experience Alaska through history.

Even though you’re sailing through Alaska’s Inside Passage, your phone data may not cover the remote areas when sailing, and you want to avoid incurring hefty data charges. Internet on a Royal Caribbean cruise is expensive, often costing $20 or more per day for one device. If you’re from the United States (or another country with access to US phone service), you may not need an internet package. If the captain deems the approach to a glacier too dangerous, whether due to icebergs or low visibility, your highly awaited glacier viewing may be canceled.

If a balcony stateroom is in your budget, then definitely book one and enjoy the opportunity to have a private area to enjoy the natural beauty of Alaska anytime you see fit. There is no denying that having easy access and private space, especially when near a glacier, is a lovely perk. Nonetheless, you can occasionally come across a good deal by booking in advance or finding a last-minute deal offered by a hotel. If you really need a budget hotel, your best bet is to stay further from downtown or near the airport.

These low fares are almost always on Radiance Class ships sailing one-way itineraries from Vancouver. It’s important to reserve these activities in advance to not only ensure you can try the activity onboard, but to reserve the best time, day, and price that works for you. Hats, gloves, and sunglasses are all important items to bring with you to ensure you stay warm in the chilliest temperatures you may encounter. While you may walk around in flip flops in the Caribbean, you probably will not want to do this on an Alaska cruise! Packing the right shoes to fit Alaska’s terrain and shore excursion opportunities is essential to ensure you remain comfortable during your vacation.

If you have a dining package, head to any of the restaurants onboard to reserve all specialty dining days and times for the week. Royal Caribbean offers complimentary lectures presented by higher education staff on the history and culture of the ports your cruise will visit. If you’re sailing on a Quantum Class ship to Alaska, head to the back of the Windjammer or the Solarium bridge wings for some fantastic views of the scenery with fewer crowds. On Radiance Class ships, check out the helicopter pad, the front of deck 12 above the bridge, or the Viking Crown Lounge. On the first day or two of your cruise, we recommend exploring the ship to make note of areas from which you can view the scenery once you get to Alaska. The pool deck is a popular option, but you may find some hidden gems throughout the ship.

You can purchase a travel insurance plan directly through Royal Caribbean upon booking or through an outsider provider. If you travel frequently, we recommend an annual travel insurance plan that covers you all year round. In addition to a 7-night Alaska cruise, you can extend your trip with a land-based tour.

An Inside Room With a View

Not only do you get a larger bedroom area, but you will get your own balcony attached to your room that you can step onto and enjoy the outside views. There are also accessible cabins for those with mobility needs, as well as very limited cabins designed for solo cruisers. By asking your stateroom attendant to split the bids, you'll now get a walkway in the middle of the room between the beds.

Complaints vary but largely hone in on the cabins' small size (128 square feet), awkward layout (including poor TV positioning) and in-cabin noise from the bathroom. Another reviewer griped that, despite being billed as family-friendly, the cabin wasn't large enough to fit in a cot for a baby on a recent sailing. The general overall consensus was that this "family-friendly" cabin wasn't truly suitable, space-wise, for more than two passengers. Although inside cabins are usually cheaper than other cabins on your cruise ship, it’s not guaranteed.

Relaxing 7 Day Cruise to Europe

If you're planning a cruise on one of the line's older vessels and a balcony cabin is a must, you'll want to book early to ensure you get one. If you’re cruising somewhere particularly scenic, such as Alaska or Norway, booking an oceanview room is recommended. You don’t want to miss a single moment of scenery outside, and time spent in an inside cabin means missing views of fjords, wildlife, and snow-capped mountains. Cruise pricing can vary drastically from ship to ship and sailing to sailing, but you can expect to pay around $25-40 more per night for a standard-sized oceanview cabin compared to an inside cabin. Inside cabins are located all over a Royal Caribbean ship, from the lowest to highest decks.

Inaugural Wonder of the Seas season

The screens are 4K ultra high definition capable screens that stretch from floor to ceiling and receive a video feed from the ship's cameras that are mounted at the stem and stern of the ship. Our goal has been to provide our readers with expansive coverage of all aspects of the Royal Caribbean experience. Matt started Royal Caribbean Blog in 2010 as a place to share his passion for all things Royal Caribbean with readers. He oversees all the writers at Royal Caribbean Blog, and writes a great deal of content on a daily basis. The idea is you'll know when it's day time when the light show on TV illuminates the room. While it worked as intended, at this point in my life, I rarely sleep without an alarm set whether I am in a balcony or inside room.

YOUR PLACE, YOUR SPACE

I know I'll be standing along it gazing out at the immensity of the ocean often when I'm on board the vessel. This new connectivity is thanks to a giant, four-deck-high glass wall that lines one side of the Promenade, allowing light to spill into the space. The game-changing innovation here, which is hard to grasp from the deck plans of the vessel that the line has released, is that the space now is connected to the sea in a way it's never been before. Plus, stairs from the zone will take you and your kids straight to the Adventure Ocean kids club, one deck below (as well as the family-friendly Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade).

It's designed to make you think you're actually in a balcony cabin with a view, and it is quite realistic-looking. As I mentioned above, there is one way to get a glimpse of the outside world from an inside cabin on a Royal Caribbean ship. In one of the great cruising innovations, Royal Caribbean has created some inside cabins with a "virtual balcony" that offers a view of the outside. Inside cabins on Symphony of the Seas measure just 149 square feet, quite a bit less than the typical ocean-view cabin on the vessel (those range from 179 to 272 square feet). The typical balcony cabin on Symphony of the Seas is 182 square feet, not including a 50-square-foot balcony.

Our Interior staterooms include a wide array of amenities for your whole family to enjoy.

Are you looking to ball out on your weeklong vacation aboard the world's largest cruise ship? With capacity for nearly 10,000 passengers and crew, Icon of the Seas is billed as part all-inclusive resort, part theme park, and a massive destination unto itself. Clocking in at 250,380 gross tons and measuring nearly a quarter mile long (1,198 feet to be exact), the vast ship will sport a total of 20 decks, 18 of which will be accessible to guests.

On some ships, you'll find the square footage of exterior cabins to be slightly larger than inside cabins, with cozy seating areas. Some even feature proper sitting spaces in front of the window, such as a built-in plush bench or an alcove in the recessed window. Located in the Solarium, The Vue offers poolside drinks with panoramic ocean views. Royal Caribbean offers so much to see and do onboard its ships, and then there are all the activities you can do in the ports you visit, that you have to start wondering how much time will you actually spend in your room. An inside stateroom is usually the cheapest option available when booking, and it offers a "home away from home" to enjoy during your cruise.

Spacious Ocean View Balcony*

And savor a burst of flavors throughout culture-rich ports in the Mediterranean, the British Isles, Scandinavia and beyond on an unforgettable cruise through Europe. No matter where in the world you choose to wander, cruises can take you deep into top-rated cruise ports and off-the-beaten-path gems, so you can experience each one like a local. Not all inside rooms are created equal, and there are a few cruise lines of note that have made the interior feel superior. For the right cruisers with the right attitude, they can be the perfect option. But even better is that residency in these cabins gives exclusive access to the Studio Lounge, a hip hangout where cruise travelers can watch TV, hang out with a coffee or beer, and socialize with other solos. You'll find in this lavish suite an in-suite slide, cinema, and karaoke area, as well as a private balcony and whirlpool.

But it's what kept swirling through my head Wednesday during a sneak peek at the line's next new ship, Icon of the Seas. When it comes to building the most amazing megaresorts at sea, Royal Caribbean these days is basically just competing with itself. With every neighborhood I walked through, I thought "This is where I want to spend my day". Until I got to the next neighborhood, and then thought the same thing. It felt like a bigger space to me, and I just liked the flow a lot more.

A private balcony, luxurious bedding and in-suite dining are just a few of the upgraded amenities you’ll enjoy. And if it’s extra pampering you seek, be sure to save time for a relaxing service at Vitality Spa℠. Most cruisers enjoy the natural sunlight that pours into a small cabin through the window, but the view outside is hard to beat. If your cruise is traveling through any scenic routes (say Alaska or the Norwegian fjords), you can admire the vistas from bed without having to seek out a public deck. On port days, you're able to watch as the ship docks and get a lay of the land firsthand. Booking an inside cabin means I can stretch my vacation budget further.

Unlike at home or in a balcony room, where the morning light seeps in and wakes everyone up, 3pm and 3am look exactly the same in an inside room (so pack an alarm clock!). While inside rooms are not the most spacious rooms on the ship, they do offer more space than you might be giving it credit for offering. The Boardwalk neighborhood is full of activity during both the day and evening, and it was much louder than I expected when I initially booked the cabin. Remember when we told you inside rooms on cruises are cheaper than other rooms?

I'm certainly not suggesting there won't be lines or a crowd on Icon, but I do think there's enough happening around the ship to keep everyone from congregating in one area. Rover is a symbol for the fun and family-centric nature Icon of the Seas was designed to deliver. Obviously no one is booking a cruise just to see a dog, but it's a really nice touch. I've always been a big fan of Izumi, and what Royal Caribbean has done with this specialty restaurant on Icon is astonishing. It's been given the necessary space to house all of Royal Caribbean's best ideas in one.

Likewise, having natural daylight in the room is a major plus for many cruisers, making an inside cabin a last resort. And even if a true solo cabin sans single supplement isn't available, booking a standard interior room will save you money because the solo supplement is a percentage of the cruise fare. They also have a much higher price tag than the typical Royal Caribbean cabin. You'll find multiple subcategories within each of the four broad categories of cabins on Royal Caribbean ships. It is, of course, important to look beyond just the price when comparing oceanview and inside cabins. If you fear feeling claustrophobic or disoriented in an inside cabin, booking an oceanview room is your best bet.

Downsizing from a balcony cabin to an inside room can free up hundreds of dollars you can use to splurge on that couples massage or flightseeing helicopter tour. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. Royal Caribbean's newer ships have relatively few such cabins, as cabins that face outward are usually built with balconies now. On the contrary, if you plan to spend significant time relaxing in your cabin throughout the sailing, an upgrade could be well worth the cost. Royal Caribbean has a few suites that really stand out compared to other cruise lines.

If you're too close to sea level, the waves may perpetually douse the window. If your window is behind a lifeboat, you might not see much of anything at all. Partially obstructed or fully obstructed outside cabins will often get you a lower rate than rooms with better views.
